Let me start off by saying that I am a violinist with years of experience. I have taught violin lessons for nearly 20 years and have been tearing up the violin charts for as long as I can remember. Don't get me wrong, because of my age and experience, I am occasionally a little bare bone for you will want to learn violin from me. But, I promise you that if you want to learn violin you will have immediate assistance to help you do it.
The violin is a beautiful instrument, with a huge voice and range, it can fool you into a trance with your poor playing. It is also a huge instrument that takes a lot of time to master, it can be quite frustrating to say the least. I do not want you to fall into the traps above. I know that they are the naturalwoods and why not buy a cheap one for a quality student that will not hold the price tag for a year or two.
I quite simply wanted to look at the violin from a beginner's point of view and that is why I am writing this article. If you are looking for a hobby to relieve stress and pressure and give you the time of your life, then hobby is the best answer. Not everyone can learn to play the violin, or any musical instrument really. If you are a beginner, the best thing you can do for your first advanced step would be to find a good instructor.
The next most important thing would be a practice schedule. Most people fail to practice because they are bored, sick or they think it is too difficult. These people would make a terrible mistake. Whatever you do, just do it and do it consistently.
Finally, you must learn to read music. This is unfortunately not as hard as it sounds. I am not talking about sight reading but about learning the notes on the violin. These are your basic open chords and your basic scales. If you already know this, then you are well on your way. If you would like to get a teacher or tutor, this is a great option also.
If you do not want to use a tutor, then you will just have to find a good beginner's violin book or video. These are a great resource that will help you practice and become comfortable with playing in an impatient manner. You will progress quickly if you use these avenues. Believe me, I know how they feel because I used both of these learning methods and still got better.
So, by all means, use these methods to become a better violinist. Each of them has a lot of advabtages. And the best thing about all of them is that it can bring you closer to your goals of playing good violin.
